Tividen in Sweden
Date: January 15, 2026
We spent the time around Christmas in Denmark. In January, Bjarne and Ulrik went to Sweden to do some hiking.
We drove up to the Tiveden National Park leaving Copenhagen in the afternoon and spending the first night at a bed and breakfast close to the park. That night it was very cold with temperatures under -20 degrees Celsius. It warmed up during our trip, so it was only a little below zero while camping.
The car is parked and we are ready to go:

We put chains on the rear wheels since snow was forecast and we would probably need them to get out.
We had dropped off our gear a little before parking the car, so the first part of the walk was nice and easy along the road:

Here is the pile of gear next to the road:

We had to carry it all to our camp site close to a small lake:

You can see a shelter on the other side of the lake.
We split the load over two walks from the road to the camp site. Here Ulrik is dealing with some of the gear close to the camp site:

Behind him there is even a nice little toilet that we could use.
Finally, the tent is up with the wood stove in place:

It is a good idea to clear the ground of snow if possible, so it does not melt and make everything wet in the tent.
In the late afternoon we went for a nice short hike in the snow to get started.
This is from the second day in the woods:

As you can see, the Tividen National Park is very beautiful with lots of forest, hills, and big and small lakes.
In areas where the ground is soggy in the summer, planks were put in place to walk on. That is very nice most of the time, but in the winter they can be hard to see and follow:

We saw small bushes with no leaves in many places. It is probably animals that has eaten the leaves to get food in the winter. The bushes are blueberries:

We had a nice break for hot cocoa in a small cave:

The third day in the forest, the temperature rose to above freezing and snow had fallen in the night. We went for a long hike in difficult conditions with lots of heavy snow. It was cold to hike because it was so wet due to the high temperatures. We only stopped for a short while to eat lunch and did not take many pictures.
Here is one from the forest:

The tent as we got back:

On the fourth day, we carried all the gear out and went back to the car to do a bit of digging to get it out:
