Hiking in Rondane, Norway, part 2
Date: September 29, 2025
It was windy in the afternoon of the second full day and it got worse at night. WIth all the rocks, it was hard to find a good spot for the tent, so we could not get any shelter from the wind.
This is the tent in the sunrise of the third day:

The sun rising on Rondslottet which is the highest peak in the park at 2178 m of elevation:

This was the first goal of the day. We started hiking just after the sun came up and it was a very windy day. After a while we got to the altitude where the snow started:

From left to right, a view of Midtronden West, Midtronden East and Högronden:

You can see that the two peaks of Midtronden are almost level with the horizon, so the picture is from about 2050 m altitude on the way to the peak of Rondslottet. The wind was strong and we knew it was going to get worse once we reached the peak, so we took a break in a small sheltered cave:

We were right that the wind was going to pick up and it was hard to hold the phone to take pictures of Ulrik at the top:

We made it over the peak and headed towards the pass between Rondslottet and Vinjeronden. Here is a look back at Rondslottet:

Ulrik on Vinjeronden at an elevation of 2046 m:

Another look back at Rondslottet with Högronden in the background to the right:

We made it down Vinjeronden into the valley, so managed to cross the mountain range before lunch.
We still had a lot of work ahead of us. We had 17 km of hiking in the long valley on this other side of the mountain range to get back to the camp with Ulrik's big tent and the nice woodstove waiting for us. All day we were carrying full backpacks of camping gear from a night spent in the mountains.
The hike in the valley was beautiful:

5 km before camp we made it to a small gravel road that is mostly closed. There were some nice huts along the road:

This is the main valley we hiked up and down most days:

In the lower part of the photo you can see the dirt road crossing a river. It is the same river we crossed on a bridge higher up the valley in the morning of day two.
We slept well at the base camp after three tough days in the mountains. On the morning of day four, we had to carry all our gear back down the mountain:
